Speech and language development in early days -

Speech and Language development in a child should not be ignored and its a must to take care of.
the main concern of parents must be that their child is growing gradually with acquiring the speech
and language skills at the correct time or not. The response of child at the age from birth to 4 or 5 months should be noticed by the parents as the first 3 years of a child is the most crucial years of development of nervous system that includes the speech and language development of the child.the child at this age should be exposed to the  specific  spoken language as much as possible because then it will be easier for the child to grasp the environment and to adopt the speech and language skills according to the situation.


Signs that indicates that the child is doing all right -


üwhen an infant cries and he/she knows that it will bring food or some company of guardians.

üThe infant starts recognizing the sounds of her mother or the primary caretaker and starts
    reacting to it.

üwhen he/she stops crying when listens to a familiar sound and give reactions to it.

üwhen he/she starts making different sounds and generate different weeping sounds for their
    different needs to be full filled.

üwhen he/she starts responding and recognizing most common words of their native language.



It is very important for caretakers and parents to notice the above signs to be fully ensured
about the child's exact evaluation.


In case the signs are not indicating in the child after observing, parents should immediately
ask for the medical professionals such as Audiologist and speech-language pathologist, who is a health professional trained to evaluate and treat people with speech or language disorders. The speech-language pathologist will talk to you about your child’s communication and general development. He or she will also use special spoken tests to evaluate your child. A hearing test is often included in the evaluation because a hearing problem can affect speech and language development.

After evaluation, depending upon the results the speech-language pathologist may suggest activities  you can do at home to stimulate your child’s development. They might also recommend group or individual speech therapy or suggest further evaluation by an audiologist (a health care professional trained to identify and measure hearing loss), or a developmental psychologist (a health care professional with special expertise in the psychological development of infants and children).


Mainly there are 2 ways a hearing loss can occur in a child -


1. Born with a hear loss (also known as genetic hear loss) :- 


hearing loss can also be occur through the genes of the parents that follow up into the current generations. Experts says more than 50% of the hearing loss cases are congenital hearing loss .It simply means that the hearing problem is just inherited from the parents to their younger ones.



Remedies :-

l It is best to start the treatment of congenital hearing loss before the baby is 6 months old.
In order to have a better chance of improving the child’s communication, it is always advised to
go for treatment as soon as possible.

l Medications for infections. Ear tubes for repeated ear infections or Surgery to correct structural problems or an Hearing Aid implantation.

l Speech therapy and  Learning sign language. Cochlear implant (for those with profound sens neural hearing loss) is also a option if the hear loss is severe.



2. hearing loss due to external factors :- 

Acquired hearing loss due to external factors includes the exposure to very loud sounds continuously for hours or a injuries that affects the ear and causes a hear loss. Have had diseases that the doctor warned, can cause hearing loss or Have been taking medicines that may have hearing loss as a side effect.

l The speed of rejuvenation period depends upon the speed of actions taken after the external injury has cause the damage.

l Ask for professionals as quickly as possible because ignoring even merely hear loss could lead to a severe case and the things could go out of hands.
